The area was originally called Sandhurst, which remains Glenhaven's most prominent and highest street, Sandhurst Crescent. There was some confusion with mail because of a suburb in Melbourne with the same name. A public meeting was held in 1894 to have the name changed to reflect its valley location. The upper portion of the valley was known as "The Glen", and the lower portion as "The Haven", hence the choice Glenhaven. [1]
Glenhaven has two schools, Glenhaven Public School located in Glenhaven Rd and founded in 1889, and Lorien Novalis School for Rudolf Steiner Education.
Buses run every hour to Castle Hill, a train line has been proposed for 2017.
As of the ABS census in 2001, the population was 5,595 people: 2,742 males, 2,853 females. This comprises approximately 4.0% of the Shire's total population. The population of Glenhaven grew by 9.6% from 1996 to 2001.
